Most golfers buy drivers the way they pick a restaurant: a friend recommended it, a pro used it, or the paint job looked fast. Then they wonder why the slice shows up on the fourth hole. The problem is rarely the golfer alone. It’s the mismatch between their speed, launch, and spin and the shaft and head sitting in the bag.
We went to Tour Quality Golf in Tulsa for a driver fitting and a lesson series, and the first lesson has already added 15 yards to our driver.
A driver fitting on a TrackMan launch monitor replaces guesswork with data: ball speed, launch angle, spin rate, carry distance, and dispersion. Those numbers show whether the shaft flex, weight, and loft combination suits your swing.
Tour Quality Golf says it is authorized by TaylorMade, Titleist, Ping, Callaway, Mizuno, Miura, Fujikura, True Temper, and Project X. That matters because a fitting limited to one brand’s inventory is a catalog, not a fitting.
The shop also states that its fitting fee is not credited toward a club purchase, which it frames as keeping the fitting brand-neutral. It’s a bold position, and it’s the right instinct. When a fitting is free because you’re buying, the recommendation is already priced into the club.
The strongest claims on the site are about focus, not volume. Customer Michael Newnam says eight months of lessons cut six strokes off his handicap, and each session gave him one clear fix he could see on the course the next round. Steven Sawyer credits lessons with Ross and Preston for a 10 to 15 stroke improvement over friends he’s played with for 20 years.
These are self-reported testimonials, not controlled results. Still, the pattern matches what most coaches will tell you: one priority per session beats a checklist of ten.
Club fittings and lessons both start at $99.99. Bays rent for $50 per hour and include up to four players, with no membership required. That works out to $12.50 per golfer per hour when four people share a bay, a useful benchmark if you’re deciding between a solo session and a group outing.
The Diamond membership is $249.99 per month and includes one private lesson, 25% off fittings and repairs, and unlimited bay access. If a private lesson costs close to the $99.99 starting rate, the included lesson covers about a third of the monthly fee. The membership pays off only if you also use the bays regularly.
Tour Quality Golf says most repairs are finished within 24 hours, and simple jobs like regripping can sometimes happen while you wait. If you’re fitting a new driver, a loose head or worn grip on your old clubs is an easy fix to bundle into the same visit.
